Loch Maree's wooded islands

Loch Maree has over 30 islands, the largest is the only island in Britain to contain a loch that itself contains an island. Another, Isle Maree is different from all of the others. Instead of Scots Pine, it has Holly and Oak and is associated with Druidism, early Christianity and a Viking burial. The waters of the loch have also been used as a cure for insanity up until Victorian times. The islands of the loch are now protected because of nesting birds such as the Black Throated Diver.
